Summary 01007: simpsons: Some in-game samples such as "maggie" and "that's my sister mister" sound bad.
Description Some in-game samples such as "maggie" and "that's my sister mister" sound bad. There is a serious sound deficiency between MAME and the arcade, in the arcade those samples are near TV-quality.

The Maggie sample sounds fine now. Can someone else check this, I think it was fixed.

In the sound test, sample $33 in particular which says "Maggie!" - at least on my CPU, there is a noticeable distortion and roughness (crackles) to parts of the speech. Whether or not this is what the OP meant by bad sound - I can understand the observation based on this and other sound check samples.
It's almost like the samples are being overdriven somehow..

That's actually a different "Maggie" sample than the one I heard in-game when testing... I hadn't checked the sound test until now. Guess it's still there.

The wave form of the voice "Maggie!" shows that there is a short span wave values are shifted to bottom. It causes the broken noisy sounds.
Looks like higher lower wave values cause the wrongly calculated and rounded span.
