I played up to that point (using the invincibility cheat) and the background appeared exactly in the same place as in the PCB shots.

I don't think this is something that has changed since 0.124, so it's possible that the background position changes from game to game e.g. depending on if/where you die.

Yes, thank you Nicola for the clarification! This original pcb behaviour is a sort of "bug not a bug" and now I can able to reproduce it on MAME too as on real pcb. The strange behaviour of this game is that if you never die during the level the background red-violet appears as on your snap, while if you die after the half of the level it appears ahead. The same happens into level 1, as confirmed by Kold666 on its original board :)
