Summary 03040: soulclbr and clones: Game speed issue
Description Soul Calibur, like other namcos12.c games, has two video modes; you can select them by entering "display test" in the test menu.

If you play using the default "non interlace" mode, the game runs way too fast at 100% emulation speed; i'd say it goes twice the normal speed.
If you use the visually better "interlace" mode, the game is instead much slower than normal (again, assuming you reach 100%).

The issue seems to concern Soul Calibur only, as other Namco System 12 games (like Tekken 3) run at proper speed using both video options.

Tested, still not right. MAME 0.164 seems to be the only build with both proper sound and geometry. 0.202 stutters.

On 0.164, non-interlaced mode plays at the correct speed until a fight starts, at which point it will start running at about 120% speed. This issue persists during all fights and mock battles, but not during menus or victory animations. In interlaced mode the game runs incredibly slow throughout, about 60% speed, and character models leave behind a strange afterimage.

The sound should be correct in 0.202. If it stutters, then it's due to your PC not being up to the task (the PSX drivers have had some performance loss lately, which is an unrelated issue). This issue is regarding the game speed itself not being correct even if it shows 100% when you press F11.

There are some other issues when the interlace mode is turned on, such as flickering in the high score and intro screens and the after-images during gameplay, but I think for those another issue should be opened.
