Summary 03454: xeviousa, xeviousb, xeviousc: Xevious set information
Description xeviousb is actually the original Atari licensed version; xeviousa is a later version in which the difficulty was increased, the point values of the Sol Citadels was decreased from 2000 to 1000 points (for both revealing and destroying them) and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th special flags lines were relocated.
Steps To Reproduce Bomb and destroy a Sol Citadel and watch the score increase, it's 2000 points in sets xevious (Namco original) and xeviousb (original Atari licensed) but 1000 points in the harder xeviousa set. The special flags are harder to check, the 1st flag is in the first river all sets but the well known lines for the later flags are not the same in the xeviousa set. For example the 2nd flag line is not near the end of the first Bacura shield area but just before the first grey airstrip in the xeviousa set.

After additional checking it seems that xeviousb is the original Atari licensed set, xeviousc is an Atari licensed set from a Namco PCB. The rom positions on an Atari PCB are 1M and 1L for CPU1, 4C for CPU2. The rom positions on a Namco PCB are 3P, 3M, 2M and 2L for CPU1, 3F and 3J for CPU2.

xeviousb and xeviousc seem to play the same while xeviousa is definitely harder.

xeviousa - Atari license, harder
xeviousb - Atari license
xeviousc - Atari license, Namco PCB
