No problems here, Was playing MK last night.
Using 0.177 32bit, Linux/SDL with Pulse audio driver.

No problems with official 0.176 or 0.177, 32-bit or 64-bit. Outside of making sure your nvram/ini/cfg machine/driver appropriate files are made fresh, I have no idea what could be causing your issue.
There were some issues with OKI games during the 0.177 dev cycle but only with save states. So if you are using a binary made from GIT.. go download official.
