Summary MESS-specific 06399: smspal, sms [secret]: Possible bad sprite priority
Description Possible bad sprite priority with lives and arrows icons at the top-left of the screen. It only happens with the sprites that simulate a tree leafs layer in some levels, for example at level 2. Maybe someone can compare it with the original cartridge.
Steps To Reproduce Play the game and reach level 2.

I'm willing to bet it is expected behavior from original. This video I'm linking appears recorded from some LCD TV but it appears to be console play. The colors seem a bit off as well as the screen is wide (like a modern LCD) and doesn't strike me as emulated at all.

I think the same, if this video is really recorded from an original sms gameplay, is a BTANB...

it's almost certainly BTNAB, there's nothing complex or unemulated about the SMS priority scheme.
