Summary 06580: wheelrun: Turning left less responsive than turning right (deadzone?)
Description When turning right, the car will react immediately as it should. When turning left, you need to be turning at a certain speed before it starts to turn. Makes control difficult.
Steps To Reproduce You can notice this in a race but it's easiest to see in the service menu. Cycle through the service menu past the tracks until you see a black screen with two cars on the bottom and you can test the responsiveness there. It's easier to reproduce with a mouse/spinner if you lower the sensitivity.

If you set the digital speed to 1,2 or 3 and use the keyboard, you cannot turn left at all but turning right will work fine.

It seems perfectly playable with default speeds showing in Analog Controls, using the keyboard. I tried the Service Mode and it also seems to respond just fine with default speeds during the wheel test.
Some games are simply not programmed to deal with super slow or super fast digital speeds.

I'm not so sure this is something that is a shortcoming with emulation.

I'm inclined to agree with what Tafoid has written above.

If I TAB into input (this Machine), and remap left and right to my D-Pad. Turning left or right seems consistent.

I definitely don't disagree that if you are playing with a keyboard with the default sensitivity, there's not an issue. I was attempting to play with a 360 degree wheel (which requires you to drop the sensitivity for it to be playable) and I could immediately tell something was off during the race so I began investigating. I only brought up the keyboard with lower sensitivity to eliminate the chance of my wheel causing the issue. If you are playing with an analog input and slowly move left to right you will see that turning right is much more responsive.

Set it up as Direction Needed to get actual Devs, hopefully, to comment on this.

I revisited this issue in 0.226. Looks like some changes may have been made since this report but there is still something strange going on. Open a dial game like offroad or arkanoid and go to Analog Controls. When you move your mouse, it will smoothly move on the bar at the bottom and you can stop in the middle at any point and the bar will remain. On wheelrun, you can't really get that bar in the middle. It's either completely full or struggling to move away from the edge. Attached is a video showing a comparison with offroad and wheelrun. Note the relationship between the mouse pointer and the bar.
