The proof is in the pudding as they say. Where is the proof (the original audio) that shows this discrepancy?
Your bug report has no substance. The Driver chosen was also incorrect (mk1.cpp is not Mortal Kombat). Please post a video or recording of what it is supposed to sound like for comparison because I hear nothing wrong with it.

Look for the videos up. Compare arcade pcb music on Kano profile screen (first video) and in character selection screen and opponent screen at second video.

Note: video 3 is the opponent list screen video and plays the same music as the Kano screen and character selection screen but is not heard too much because
the man is talking. See original video:

I'm able to hear it pretty close with some sound chip volume adjustments.
Using -cheat, you can pull up adjustable sliders (TAB -> Slider Controls)

Setting the following in order seems to make it much closer to your recordings - items 2-6 on the slider menu:

Speaker - 50%
Williams ADPCM YM2151 - 200%
Williams ADPCM YM2151 - 200%
Williams ADPCM AD7564 - 200%
Williams ADPCM OKI MSM6295 - 50%

Not perfect, but you get the idea that likely the only problem is volume levels.
Acknowledging the bug for now.
