Summary 00838: fatfury1, ssideki3: NeoGeo possible graphic problems.
Description Ever since the MAME 0.116u1 rewrite of the Neo-Geo driver I have noticed the following issues:

fatfury1: displays black lines across the sky in several levels (especially when you jump).

ssideki3: displays moving lines down the left side of the field.

In general I believe the MAME 0.116u1 rewrite has greatly improved the driver.

00838-ssideki3-0000.png and 00838-ssideki3-0000.png are a picture of the same frame, less than a half a second apart. There are some visible changes between the two, which shouldn't happen because the screen / camera is not moving at all. The glitches are subtle but they're noticeable if you switch between the two in an image editing program.

I won't bother to look at any NeoGeo issues until they are confirmed on a real PCB.

I have reason to believe that this is an emulation bug and not something that has appeared on the actual hardware. I've yet to find any real videos of the original Fatal Fury on MVS/AES (will continue searching for one), but these lines definitely did not appear before the rewrite. Also, I've found that some videos of Fatal Fury running on the Wii Virtual Console did not exhibit these lines. If the Wii emulation of these games are accurate to the original hardware, it might be an issue worth looking into.

These lines are especially noticeable in Spin Master, where the plane is taking off (right after the bomb scene, you can see some lines appear in the sky as the plane is rising ).

But as I said, I'll try to do as much research as possible for the real thing.

Wii emulation is *far* from accurate to the real hardware, it takes a million shortcuts to get it running on the weak hardware of the Wii.

I doubt the Sidekicks 3 bug is real, it's just the usual 'graphic glitches on the edge of screen' issue that all NeoGeo games suffer from on real hardware. The Fatal Fury issue could be an off-by-one error in the drawing functions, although I did think that had been fixed.

It's possible both bugs come down to exact display timing, which i can assure you the Wii emulation does *not* get right.

It's a similar situation with Fatal Fury. The glitch is again possibly a little bit different on the real hardware, not seeming to go all the way across the screen so far in my tests but hard to really boil it down that much and definitely happening. I'll upload a video later but this needs to be set as a glitch in the real games and not to possible.
