Summary | 02622: Various: "Refresh Speed" option induces aliasing distortion.
Description | I'm hearing some aliasing distortion on some games when the "Refresh Speed" option is enabled. The most noticeable instance I can find is Fantasy Zone. The sound made after a credit is inserted is noticeably distorted. The effect can also been seen when viewed using a spectrogram. (see attached file)
Steps To Reproduce |
-refreshspeed 1 Use 60hz monitor refresh rate. |
||||
Additional Information |
In the case of "Fantasy Zone", the distortion became worse with version .128, while some games such as Splatter House (splattej) had been distorted for some time. I believe update 0.127u2 is why Fantazy Zone sounds different: Changed refreshspeed target to 0.25Hz below rate provided, in order to guarantee that inexact timings do not lead to sound stuttering. It seems since 0.127u2. I uploaded two wav clips for comparison. But I don't know if this is a bug or not, because the target rate was dropped by design. |
