for information on why it's broken.

the text tiles are meant to come from alternating sides of the 16x16 tiles, as proven by that final fight shot with mismatched roms, however, it's possible that the effect is screen relative or something similar, and the current implementation is wrong.

the actual screen is meant to be rather glitchy as shown in some screenshots posted on mametesters before (lots of dark grey tiles with black tiles where the current glitches are) but obviously restoring the old behavior would be a hack.

there are too many 'tile' hacks in the cps driver at the moment, the mercs ones for example are very ugly indeed. needs sorting out properly.

Looks as in the second screen shot now, with gray patches inbetween the letters, which from what Haze says should be the correct behaviour.
