Summary | 04528: pengadvb: Resets itself usually sometime within stage 4
Description |
After playing stage 4 (the water stage where logs will kill your penguin) for roughly 30 seconds - 1 minute, the game will reset itself. Tried this twice and it reset twice. Tafoid: My save state is number 8 and it saved mere seconds before crash. The crash is best described as a warning alarm .. everything freezes.. ALARM, silence (8 times), then black screen/reset. |

Steps To Reproduce | Play the game to stage 4.

For bugs which require some skill and work to get to, it's best to provide a save state at the beginning or nearest the time of the crash. The driver should have operational save states. If not, please post an .inp (-record) of your gameplay playing up to the crash. These will be needed if any Dev looks at this. Also, given the state of MAMEUI, please duplicate with a command-line version. |

I was able to duplicate with 0.143 command-line and attached a save state just before crash. I was not able to duplicate with the latest release - so it might be a bug already fixed. If anyone can duplicate with 0.143u9, please let us know here! |

If it doesn't happen with the MSX version in MESS I'm willing to bet it's just a lame bug introduced by the bootleggers in hacking it, especially if it doesn't happen all the time ;-) |

The only cheat I used initially was one to give infinite lives. Provided the OP didn't do that as well, it might be some form of protection. |

It's a *really* lazy hack of the home release, I doubt they added any protection ;-) |

I can not confirm it on 143u9 |

I confirm this on 0.145u4 - Right about the end of the level, the graphics glitch up, there's an alarm-like sound then the game resets itself. I also add to the report that the game resets itself upon running out of lives. (I also had to use the infinite lives cheat, as it was practically impossible to get to level 4 on the two lives the game gives you.) |

The reset on game end is most likely deliberate since this is an MSX computer game adapted to work as an arcade game as a bootleg - complete with untouched "Push Space Key" dialog. They didn't do a lot of work to adapt it, short of trapping game start and looking for coins. |

Yeah, I figured it was probably deliberate, but I mentioned it anyway since it's there, and if you inserted more than one coin, you lost all of them. Come to think of it, that probably benefitted the bootleggers. ;) |
