Summary 04449: daioh: Access violations causing MAME to crash.
Description At random points, Daioh will crash MAME due to an access violation. This does not occur in every session. Due to the nature of this bug, it's difficult for me to say how it can be reproduced. I did manage to record a session with the crash, but doing so renders the INP file useless because it crashes MAME when it is used for playback. I will supply the INP file anyways, just in case it helps.

The current release is 0.143u2, and many things have been updated since 0.143. Please reconfirm your report with u2.
Especially when the cause of the issue is unknown, it is important to exclude the possibilities as much as we can.

The inp file fails to load here in u2, and MAME freezed at the initializing screen. It contains the header only, no valid inp data.

I played daioh for over an hour using mame64 0.143u2 and could not reproduce this or any other problems.

Right, if nobody can reproduce it, nobody can confirm what is really bad, then nobody can fix it. This means virtually no bug for us.

Samurai Fox, I think backtrace on the crash in u2 is needed for us to confirm your report.

I tested the game some times and experienced a game freeze one time at the scene of the screenshot I uploaded.
MAME was still working and the game could be reset normally, but it was not an access violation.

Does anyone else have a problem?

64-bit, 0.143u2 on windows 7

Sorry for the late reply. I will test with the latest official version of MAME as soon as I can and see if I can reproduce this. Just to be clear, I used the latest officially compiled version of MAME from the MAMEdev website when I submitted this report.

I'll let you guys know if I come across anything in u2.

The only thing I can think of that 'might' cause any type of crashing/access violation is use of -HLSL. I've had crashes before for some games that were unexplained but only came about while using -HLSL in some fashion.

I managed to record an inp file, it freezes in the 3rd stage.
Confirmed the freeze also in the inp playback.

I moved the freeze problem to 04449.

This thread is only for the crash with Access Violation now.

This report is closed until you confirm the crash with a backtrace.
