Description Sound regressed in MAME 0.242. The sound in previous versions of MAME was closer to the PCB.

yeah that is a pretty significant regression, I don't usually notice sound issues, but that is night and day

Confirmed. There a couple of suspicious commits by cam900 in 0.241-->0.242 cycle related to Konami sound chips, but this is probably (not sure) the regression:

No time to test, it's too hot here for my PC to compile a tiny MAME with this commit reverted.

Default volume balance is bad in nemesis.cpp, but if you increase k005289 volume in the sliders menu, it should be better after https://github.com/mamedev/mame/commit/eada43fdd47ce7cfd515081ad4d9403ae34852f9
