Summary 01027: pleiads: "Pleiads" side-by-side test.
Description Pleiads
-------

Test conditions:

O/S: Pure DOS, synced at 60HZ
PCB: G.G.I phoenix PCB
Mameset: pleiads
Mame: m37b9
test date: 26/11/00

Observations:

Initial screen.TThe '1 Player 1 coin' is correctly displayed ( this is also displayed in the Phoenix emulation but is not present on my Phoenix PCB ).

Colours:

This game suffers similar problems to Phoenix and is probably related to the close coupling of these two games.

On the initial screen, the craft in the middle of the screen are drawn green on the PCB but red in mame.

Title screen. The word 'Pleiads' is correctly drawn in blue with yellow dots - but when complete, the arcade yellow dots go the red (with light blue outline around letters).

In mame, after 'Pleiads' is drawn, the entire word goes to ( mostly ) Yellow.

Also on this screen, buildings on PCB are mostly blue when 'Pleiads' is being drawn and the then they change to Blue and light blue when complete.

They then stay this colour for the duration of the next screen.

In mame, they turn to mostly yellow.

When the first set of sprites attack, in PCB, you don't see the 'head' - only the green 'eyes' and a yellow diamond underneath. I.e. the purple head is actually black (as opposed to transparent). Against the background you can see the shape of the black outline.

SOUND:
------

As with Phoenix, this bears little resemblence to the original and lets the game down as an experience.

although there are still problems with Sound, all of the above issues regarding Colours no longer exist.
(note: tested with mame153 32bit)

to summarise:

>On the initial screen, the craft in the middle of the screen are drawn green on the PCB but red in mame

currently in mame they are drawn green (as they should be).

>Title screen. The word 'Pleiads' is correctly drawn in blue with yellow dots - but when complete,
>the arcade yellow dots go to red (with light blue outline around letters).

currently in mame the word 'pleiads' is correctly drawn in blue with yellow dots, and when complete,
the yellow dots go to red (with light blue outline around letters). correct behaviour.

>In mame, after 'Pleiads' is drawn, the entire word goes to (mostly) Yellow.

currently in mame this does not occur (and should not).

>Also on this screen, buildings on PCB are mostly blue when 'Pleiads' is being drawn and then
>they change to Blue and light blue when complete. They then stay this colour for the duration of the next screen.

currently this does occur in mame (and should).

>In mame, they turn to mostly yellow.

currently in mame this does not occur (and should not).

>When the first set of sprites attack, in PCB, you don't see the 'head' - only the green 'eyes' and a yellow
>diamond underneath. I.e. the purple head is actually black (as opposed to transparent). Against the
>background you can see the shape of the black outline.

currently this does occur in mame (and should).

That's pretty awesome, actually. Thanks for going through this line-by-line.

I've always liked Gary Walton's side-by-side tests. I wonder how many others are close to being "closed" for being 100% accurate...

Out of curiosity, did the "pleiads" set change significantly since MAME 0.37b9?
