Summary 02816: btoads: Graphics oddity on level 2 boss
Description The left eye of the level 2 boss (snake) has a pupil in MAME but not on the PCB (at the same position i took the screenshot from, half face is behind scenery), the attached screenshot will show this very well.

I did mention this at the old mametsters forum when Aaron was discussing it but he just regarded this, but i never knew if he or anybody else realised what i ment :-)
Is this a scaling thing? it's just that it always behaves like this.

Added a pic showing just before his face goes behind the scenery, the right eye is like the left on the PCB.

given that the original report *includes* PCB evidence from the reporter's PCB I think the video you're linking is a MAME video, there's absolutely nothing about it to suggest it comes from a PCB.

can't use videos recorded from MAME or multigame cabinets as evidences.

you risk your BTNAB claims all being dismissed if you're not bothering to verify video source.

I always make sure the pcb videos I share here are real.
In this case the youtube user of previous video claims it is a pcb recording via component. He has more speedruns of battletoads recorded this way. His recordings present a known video issue only appearing in the pcb ( https://mametesters.org/view.php?id=180 ) that can be seen in 28:36 of the previous video I shown.

Moreover, there are plenty of pcb recordings of Battletoads where the snake boss never presents that brown eyes without pupils shown in this ticket. In all pcb recordings I've found the snake shows pupils and red eyes. For example (13:02):

*Uploaded snapshot from this video. The quality is not so good as the previous video but it clearly shows the same red eyes and pupils as in MAME and the previous pcb video/snapshot I shared.

I ignore the reason the snake looks that way in the tester's pcb. I thought it could be the blood free mode switch, maybe it could make the snake look less violent. But I played the game in that mode and the snake looks the same.

then we still need to work out why it happens, because we've got an actual PCB screenshot showing it different on a PCB.

that said, yes, the 2nd video is far better because it shows the PCB in use, that is important, better than taking somebody's word (especially in this age, where it's been found a lot of people are cheating world records, speed runs etc.)

looking at the original image further, there are a lot more differences than the eyes, maybe the single brighter pixel in the eye is just bleeding and appearing white in the image, other white areas also seem expanded. it could be a capture error I guess.

I captured the image when it is approaching, so I guess that's not correct. The head is more detailed when approaching.
A correct capture would be when the head is more distanced.
I guess both of my captures: "captura.png" and "pcb2.png" could be deleted.
Sorry for the confusion created.

I've attached a new capture with the head in the same distance as the original capture by the tester.
The pupil in the left eye is also not shown from this distance, and the color seems to be also red. Very confusing stuff.
