The cause can be narrowed down to the changes made in debugcpu.c debug_read_opcode (revision 4157 by Aaron, Jan 13th 2009).

Readding the ptr==NULL check stops it from crashing, but that's probably not the right fix.

In 0.145u3 it crashes with a DEBUG=1 build (tested with senkyu and rdft):

Cannot reproduce this anymore. No idea when this was fixed, but was most likely fixed by haps recent changes.
