Summary 04095: splatter, splattero, splatterj: "Incomplete" music track is played at the 2nd stage boss scene.
Description At the 2nd stage boss scene, the 3rd background music plays incomplete track (#0f in the sound test, which plays only some parts).
According to the soundtrack, it should play the "perfect" track (#31 in the sound test).

Is this a different revision or an original behaviour?
Confirmation against the REAL PCB is necessary.
Steps To Reproduce
Additional Information Original report text:
Having played Splatterhouse a lot as a child, I noticed that there is missing audio in the Poltergeist stage, while fighting the moving painting of the eye, just after having "beaten" the last of the attacking knives. One can hear the repetition of the wind-like music, while the painting is swaying from side to side, but there is an additional layer of music that is missing, and seems to have somehow been lost in the emulation. This has been evident since the earliest version of MAME32 that I played (0.67, I think), through to the latest versions, so I assume that said audio has been missing since the very beginning of the game's emulation. I have sent an audio file of how the audio should sound and one of how it should not sound.

What is the source of your audio?

You state 'Verified with original' but 'played a lot as a child'

This is not the same thing, verification with the original requires current ownership of the original, not a memory.

You provide an audio clip, but fail to state the source.

This makes your report invalid.

The attached 'original' file seems to be from the sound track Namco GSM vol.2.

At the problematic scene (stage 2 boss), the OST plays the track #31 of the sound test.

In MAME, it plays #0f instead #31. As in many Namco games, splatter house also assigns incomplete tracks, as some of which play only main tone, others play only bass sounds etc. In this case, #0f + #12 = #31.
The sound hardware is fairly perfect except the DAC volume is too high.

Although I can't tell whether this is an emulation bug or not, it strongly smells an original bug or different revision.
I checked all three sets and confirmed they behave the same.

I do own the original printed circuit board, and it is upon recent playing of this that I base my error report, having compared the music of the MAME emulation to that of the original PCB. It was as a result of my knowledge from playing it as a child that I connected the PCB to see whether I was, indeed, correct, but as this is extraneous to the fixing of the error, let's leave it at that. Apologies for not making that clear.

The source of the correct audio is from the West Mansion Splatterhouse Fan Page, and was downloaded at this link: http://www.fileplanet.com/hosteddl.aspx?/hst/d/i/dire51/splatter_house.mp3. As Fujix stated, it is probably from the Namco GSM vol 2 compilation, and I am doing some research to verify that. The other audio track (how it should not sound) is a recent audio rip from MAMEUI32 .139v2.

I confirmed the attachment is from the sound track.
And if you have a PCB which works like the sound track, we need a REAL recording of the PCB sound as well as ROM label names, high resolution photos the PCB and anything that will help development.

For now, I updated the report description and accepted the entry with a possible flag.

Ok! Let me get working on that. What else do you think would be useful, ideally speaking? In other words, what information do you think you'd need in order to be able to fix the error in the most efficient way? Should I download the information from the sound roms?

First off, we need a sound recording from the real pcb to confirm the issue as mentioned. The sound track CD is not proper in this case because it may have been edited when made, and we don't know which version of Splatter House was used to record from.

Then, if someone willing to handle it appears, what he wants will be what you'll have to prepare. I can't tell it specifically at this time.

Thank you.

I've taken some snaps of reasonable quality, and just need to record the sound from the board, which - when done - will be uploaded together -- hopefully by tomorrow.

All the necessary files have been uploaded. Regarding the audio recording, I have recorded the whole second stage boss scene. Please excuse the extraneous audio right at the end.

Can confirm this is valid, also own the PCB myself and MAME is playing the wrong tune at the end of that fight.

before anybody digs too deep, is it verified that the sound roms on said PCB are the same? maybe we're using ones for a different region across all sets or something.

what i want to make sure of is that the missing track isn't simply missing because the sound roms we have are from a version that was either censored or had a bug in the original code (for example like the original release of strider)

having a dump of roms from a PCB where the music is known to work would confirm it 100% as a MAME bug.

I did actually wonder if it's a bad dump, the labels in the sets are correct though. I have a working board, I'll dump it this weekend and see what comes out.

Verified Japanese set - SH1 roms, both sound and all voice roms match mame - definitely a bug.

It could be years, there are no developers working on the bug. Begging for things to be fixed does not go down well around here.

Marked "verified with original" after watching Alex7 videos and reading system11 verifications.

More evidence here. PCB gameplay, music non-issue in 2:58. It seems the boss music restarts at that point, when the picture comes to life and attacks you:

This is how mame does it. It seems it only resets the boss music partially:
