Version 0.185 Fixed in Version 0.186 Build 64-bit
Summary MESS-specific 06557: cdrom home console systems: megacd, neogeocd, pcecd, etc.: Software list cdrom images no longer load
Description Can't load CDROM images via software list selection for various systems, Mega CD, Neo Geo CD, PC Engine CD, probably others. Images load ok if selecting via file/path instead of software list.
MAME gives a series of nonsense dialog boxes, then a blank dialog box, then finally a "fatal error: device cd-rom image load () failed: file not found", then exits completely.
Steps To Reproduce Attempt cd image load via software list selection
Additional Information 0.184 exe works fine when dropped into identical setup (paths, ini settings etc.)
Regression Version 0.184
Affected Sets / Systems cdrom home console systems: megacd, neogeocd, pcecd, etc.

I'd say softlist CD support being broken was a major problem. Should not creep into the release at least.

No creeping. It was known and since it could be launched from command line without issue and be loaded via "picker" choosing - other options existed until this bug could be handled. It is never desirable to have any UI bugs but I suspect there will be a lot more as refactoring and separation continues to happen.

This should be fixed in 0.186. My test of "mame pce" then selecting a CD game (draculax) now works when it didn't in 0.185. Can original poster confirm?

I can confirm this is fixed launching from both Command Line and MAME's Internal UI
