load game (bagman or sbagman) add coins start game move to ladder and press up to climb it bagman dying sound plays repetitively it will stop after about 4-5 seconds and sound returns to normal this happens more consistently sbagman than bagman, though both exhibit this behavior |

The schematic doesn't make sense, but I've taken a closer look at the screwy abstraction that is tmsprom_device and found a way to work around this issue. |
