Summary | 07849: sfposeid: Function of some Unknown DIPs in DSW1 | ||||
Description |
Note that this is only for DSW1... I suspect difficulty may be hiding in DSW3, too tired to check! Unknown[1&2] control "Bonus Life" U1(off) + U2 (off) = 20k only U1(on) + U2 (off) = 15k only U1(off) + U2 (on) = 10k only U1(on) + U2 (on) = 5k only Note that in addition to checking in 0.227, I also hex-edited a 0.106 INP that plays back to >100k (which saved me from having to actually play to such a score) to see if there are additional bonus lives, but found none. While it's possible that additional lives may be issued at some score beyond 100k, it seems unlikely. Unknown[3] controls something which I guess could be called "Infinite Lives (Cheat)" When switched on, you appear to start with a normal number of lives, however no lives are removed from your reserve when you "die". Haven't found a use for Unknown[4]. |

I have some photographs from an auction listing of TT Sea Fighter Poseidon. One of the photos shows the instruction cards and a photocopy of the the DIP settings page from the manual. Unfortunately the photograph is too low resolution for me to read most of the text, but there are a number of points that can be confirmed by the image. SWA - 3 & 6 are unused switches and are set to OFF SWC - 3 & 4 are unused switches and are set to OFF 8 of the settings are designated as factory default (as shown by the Japanese reference symbol and the note at the top of the table) MAME is missing the details of the two listed below. The factory setting for SWA 1 & 2 is ON OFF – 15,000. The factory setting for SWC 1 & 2 is ON ON. This is probably the difficulty setting but I don’t like to speculate without seeing a clear copy of the text. |

I have also uploaded a photograph of the Japanese Instruction Cards. The Sea Fighter Poseidon instruction cards and DIP Table sheet came up for auction again recently. This time the photo of the settings is more readable. https://aucview.aucfan.com/yahoo/w454118973/ This morning I made a new image of the table in both Japanese & English. MAME is missing DIP settings for the bonus life score and the torpedo range. The length of the arrow illustrations on the DIP Table would indicate that the default torpedo range (long) is 100%. The arrow illustration for the (short) range is exactly half the length of the default, so 50%. I’ll leave it up to the Devs to verify this and decide how to describe this in the menu. |
