Summary 07987: yachtmn, mermaid: Reference for missing sounds
Description Known issues:
* Mermaid has a ROM for sample playback, identify and hook it up;

This report is meant to provide reference material that may help fix known issues.

The following 2 videos provide an audio reference for the missing sample sounds from the capsize animation. When the yachtsman is ejected you can hear a long cry, followed by a low thud or splash when he hits the water.

Later when the player guides yachtsman back to the boat, there is a voice sample that says よいしょ(yoisho), which means huff!; yo-heave-ho!; heigh-ho, etc. It is an expression of effort or strain.

There could be a number of other missing sounds from that ROM. I notice that the small wave makes a siren sound when you get stuck on one, but the large waves make no sound. There is also no sound when you slip on ice. Some of the moving enemies have sounds and some don't... It's really hard to say what could be missing without a long play video from hardware.
Steps To Reproduce Crash the yacht into a red or yellow buoy to cause a capsize.
Note missing sounds.
Additional Information Additionally I have uploaded a save state for the surf section at the beginning of level 5. You may notice that the music is clipping and stuttering. The following video link is a good reference for what the music sounds like on hardware.

I tried to check this for regression, but the save state is not compatible with older releases. The stuttering music goes back to at least 0.226 and for all I known has always been like this.

Recent longplay video from Yachtsman PCB for additional sound reference.

Time stamps:
00:09:24 capsize from seal/walrus/sealion? strike
Shark kills yachtsman

00:17:15 - capsize + yoisho
odd graphic lines appear in the sail when swimming back.
I’m not sure if that is an issue with his PCB or the video capture.
If there is a water plop sample it is very difficult to hear on this video.

41:03 capsize + yoisho
46:13 capsize + yoisho
57:30 capsize + yoisho
1:00:01 capsize + yoisho

01:04:40 sound effect BTANB with tidal current collision stutter.

Video confirms:
00:05:18 slipping on ice makes no sound
00:11:46 whales make no sound
00:17:15 striking a buoy make no sound.
01:05:18 getting stuck on large wave makes no sound
00:18:09 confirms small wave sound effect

For the curious:
The theme music is taken from Richard Clayderman’s Love Christine
from the album Souvenirs D'efance, which was apparently a big hit in Japan.

The tidal current music is also Richard Clayderman:
Ping Pong Sous les Arbres

The Surf music at level 5 start is:
The Astronauts – Beyond the Sun

I don’t know if the shark attack music is from anywhere.
The music in the game is sped up 1.25 to 1.5 times normal speed.

There's a scream sound + some gibberish in the "g960_42.39" rom (I couldn't hear "yoisho" in it).
I think the sound works similar to rougien. I was able to make him scream inaccurately when it's hooked up the same way as rougien. I searched for PCB photos but don't see any ADPCM chip on the top pcb.
