Summary 08402: sgemf: Incorrect default configuration settings
Description The default difficulty is set to HARD 3 in MAME.
The default timer speed is set to SLOW in MAME.
The default max round is set to 3 ROUND in MAME.
The default join-in is set to ON in MAME.

The correct factory default difficulty should be NORMAL.
The correct factory timer speed should be NORMAL.
The correct factory max round should be 1 ROUND.
The correct factory join-in setting should be OFF.
Steps To Reproduce 1. Press F2 to enter the game settings menu.

2. Go down and select configuration settings.

3. You will see that default settings are incorrect.

4. Resetting the machine to "DEFAULT" will always show the incorrect default settings.
Additional Information I have included a screenshot of the incorrect settings.

I have also included a PDF of the original Capcom arcade operators manual, which shows the correct default game settings.

These are the correct defaults for this version of the game, they're the ones coded into the software, it isn't MAME deciding this.

If Capcom USA wanted the printed ones to be the defaults, somebody didn't get the memo when providing the software, because other regions such as Japan and Asia have different defaults.

In this case, the game itself is trusted over a manual (those recommended settings are quite strange anyway)

CPS2 games often have defaults that aren’t the so-called “normal” value. This isn’t a bug.
