Summary | 08760: gng and clones: strangely to continue need press simultaneously player 1 start and player 1 button | ||||
Description |
Hello. I remember Ghosts'n Goblins arcade and as was very hard and much players had used the continue, but I not remember exactly was required press player button too. Using continue pressing simultaneously player start and button 1 was unusual. I only known japanese arcades being the Tower of Druaga and few others arcades never imported to Brazil. Really gng in arcade was required press both player start and button to continue ? Have an nice next week. |

Confirmed. It is necessary to hit Jump (Alt key) and Start (1 key) together in order to continue. This might be normal for this game, but seems rather unusual. |

Hello Robbert .. all good with you ? I had played several arcades in 80's and not had one requiring press start and another button to continue. Brazil had an mix of bootleg and original pcbs ... I not remember exactly about gng, but is as not need press both buttons to continue. Perhaps an bootleg hack ? I not have information about it. |

It's very common for Taito games to require you to do this, less common for Capcom, but given the time period, I would not be surprised if it was correct behaviour |

From the Shoutbox: crazyc: I'm at gga and just tried to test https://mametesters.org/view.php?id=8760. Unless I'm missing something you only need to press player 1.start to continue. crazyc: On the real machine only p1 start needs to be pressed to continue. |

I agree with Haze. Very strong chance that this is intended behavior on many/most gng sets in MAME. Some links of interest that seem to concur: https://groups.google.com/g/alt.games.mame/c/-l3CjM7hviw https://forums.atariage.com/topic/65450-mame-ghost-and-goblins-continue/ https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Arcade-GnG_MiSTer |

@Haze 'It's very common for Taito games to require you to do this" correct ... in some arcades have message saying to player press both button in continue screen. |

The cabinet at Galloping Ghost has Taito branding on it so that's likely the rom set in it. |

ah, so in this case it's the Taito set that DOESN'T need button 1 as well. Either way, there's clearly a software difference between the versions, it'll be an intentional thing. |
