Summary | 09196: varth and clones: Background color in start screen, ranking screen, and region warning appear off compared to PCB footage
Description | While comparing the background colors of these screens on MAME to PCB footage, the background happens to have a dark beige color on MAME compared to the black on the PCB video (link provided below).
Steps To Reproduce | None needed outside of loading the game and comparing the colors between both MAME and the PCB footage.
Additional Information |
Janet's PCB recording (Japanese version / varthj): MAME screenshots are sourced from the World version (varth). I set 0.277 as the version for the report since this is the release build I currently have, as I have yet to update to 0.278. This also happens on my 0.278 release candidate build (build eb05584). The screenshots included below are of the start and ranking screens. |

Dark grey splotches on some CPS1 games are verified to happen on real pcb. |

I understand with the Capcom logo, but the dark beige background on the other screens is the only thing that looks off in this case. Maybe I should have also shown MiSTer FPGA footage to help prove my point, but I'm not sure if it's against the guidelines. You can find them on YouTube. |

For now, I've removed everything to do with the Capcom logo so it does not come off as a duplicate of an earlier report. It's now up to you to update the status as seen fit. |

the grey/brown background has been confirmed on multiple PCBs as correct. Janet's footage is much darker (lower gamma) so it's less visible. The monitor I'm at right now is actually bright enough that you can still see it, even in the shots you've provided though. I've uploaded a picture with the levels boosted, but it should make it obvious that the only difference is the output curve on the monitor. CPS also outputs a slightly odd signal at times for the background colour, which causes some common monitors to misbehave and strip that amount from the rest of the image (whicfh is why a lot of real captures of 3 Wonders have glitched menus with entire channels missing) |
