Summary | 02192: astdelux, astdel1, astdelu2: When using cropped bezels (artwork system) the field of view in some games is completely white
Description |
This bug seems to be back. I'm not sure if it's MAME or the ATi Catalyst Display drivers, however, this is what happens. Some games (Asteroids Deluxe and Super Sprint were tested) do not display the video output or artwork, simply a white screen when using cropped bezels. When using the tab menu to switch to full bezels, the full bezel + emulated video show as they should. The game is being loaded from the command-line (not the minimal UI). |
||||
Steps To Reproduce | Here is my mame.ini (now an attachment)
Additional Information |
I'm currently using an x1950Pro AGP graphics card with the Catalyst 8.8 display drivers. Not experiencing video issues in other games. I had this problem in MAME a while ago, and it was resolved somewhere along the lines and now it's back (although prior, Space Invaders was giving me the same issue, but it now does not). It may be a MAME issue or a Catalyst issue, I'm not sure. Not really an important bug, but just an FYI. Attached is a screen capture of what I see when I boot astdelux. |

I've tried your .INI on my 32-bit Windows build of 0.127u1 and I can't duplicate it. I run an ATI card myself (Radeon 9600 All-In-Wonder) but don't have a very new driver installed. Your setup does look good though, I might have to adapt some of your settings to mine :) Can anyone else duplicate? |

It may be specific to either the r520 or the rialto pcie-to-agp bridge employed on this type of card, as ATi's driver support for the rialto based cards has been questionable. My GART settings showing everything is functioning as it should. I've tried other programs (both 3D and HW accelerated 2D) without having this issue. My personal belief is that this is both a MAME and ATi issue. ATi probably is only supporting strict DirectX spec (as it seems to always do, and never implement optional features) and MAME's handling of the bezel "texture" being cropped is causing the card to display nothing but white. Another interesting fact going from FULL --> Cropped in game is that for a split second, I see a resized astdelux video field (with no color, just b/w vector) and then it seems that the white screen appears over top). The emulation is still running in the background, however nothing is visible. However, running pacman works fine with the cropped bezel, so I don't know if it is possibly artwork/layout related. I just ran another test. If I set the resolution to 1360x768 or below, there is _no_ issue (although my monitor uses 1440x900 mode to display that res). But it seems that 1440x900@75 and 1680x1050@60 cause the issue. |

Seems to be a special case of the hardware set-up. At any rate, I think devs need more detailed information to handle the problem. Currently the range of the problem is too vague. There has been no response from Devs, personally I'd like to close this report. |
