68000 interrupts? The irq lines are driven with HOLD_LINE signals.

Most likely are the changes made by Nicola to fix some palette bugs. Assuming they are 100% correct it could be a special effect of the game.

I doubt it's correct, although fixing bugs like ths *properly* without extensive hardware testing is hard (there are still a lot of things not understood / hacked in taito f3)

even with extensive hardware testing, sometimes things don't make sense.. there are still bugs in System 32 which defy all test results (background / transparent colour in Rad Racer mountain stage for example)
