Summary 03349: mpatrol, mpatrolw: Wimpy explosion sound
Description When the moon-rover encounters something you can shoot (like a boulder or tank), the object normally has a deep earth-shaking explosive sound. Current version sounds as if the equalizer's bass is set way down. Compare with original PCB, or also older MAME version .112 has correct sound. All other sounds seem correct.
Steps To Reproduce To ensure no external switches or config files were in play, I created a new empty folder with mame.exe, a roms folder, and mpatrol and mpatrolw roms inside, and ran it (no samples). Did same for v .112 and noted difference.

If you are disputing sound emulation, you need to have some actual proof. A PCB recording directly from the board or in a cabinet would help, just like you provided with your phoenix report - that clearly shows a different behavior. There was discrete mixing added for the sound board Moon Patrol uses (0.124u5), taken from schematics - so the current output should be more in line to the actual machine. This implementation would account for the audible difference with your 0.112 test.

OK. I had a hard time finding one, but I think I found it:

Specifically, look at 2:48, 2:51, 2:54, 3:03, 3:08, 3:12, 3:14, 3:20...

When either you shoot a rock or the UFO's shoot the ground, it's much much deeper and louder, like v.112 is.

Put the slider for discrete filtermix up and it sounds more accurat.

That doesn't make any sense; discrete filtermix seems to only change the overall volume equally; not just one sample or any attribute of it.

I have added a soundrecording from my PCB.
