Summary 03556: tron: Tron Levels
Description In MAME releases prior to now, it was possible to access all of the levels on Tron, not just the odd-numbered ones, via dipswitch settings. Level 1 has 1 light cycle, Level 2 has 2 light cycles, Level 3 has 3 light cycles, etc. This is no longer possible.

Can you please describe how this was accomplished - in detail - so this can be verified? There are no documented dipswitches in the driver which do what you suggest. Also, provide a MAME version number which did work as you said.

Unfortunately, I already deleted the old MAME version and updated all of the files, so I couldn't tell you that for certain. However, I did notice that all of the levels are accessible in the rom set "Tron (6/15)" (tron4) where they are not in tron, tron2, and tron3. So save for some odd flashing fragments at the top of the screen in the graphics, tron4 works. I was almost sure that there was a setting for difficulty level or something else that affected this in the older release.

I'm pretty sure it's just a matter that they are different revisions.

First off, that flashing fragment mention which you see on the Tank level is an original bug to the game. It's been logged as 01328 and is considered a bug that isn't at bug in emulation.

As far as changes, you can see a progression with development. The earlier revision [tron4] is quite noticeably an 'easier' game. You have less enemies, more time to finish grid bug level, slight sound effects differences in MCP Cone level as well as different rapid fire rates as the newer sets among many other small changes.

Unfortunately, the only switching of sets that I know of was tron <> tron2 in 0.128u4, when the set names were changed to reflect the production dates - the later one claiming the spot as parent set. I'm not sure what else we can do here. I'm guess the behavior you desire is only available in the tron4 set.
