Summary 03886: ctomaday: There are "pauses" during rapid combo hits (close to enemies).
Description There seems to be a problem in which there are pause-like stutters when performing normal attacks (your character's fists) on enemies that take several hits to defeat. It's especially noticeable when performing these attacks close-up to this type of enemy when holding down both "punch" buttons. To be sure that it wasn't a slowdown issue, I set the overclock setting for both CPUs to 200% and the problem still occurs. I've seem some YouTube videos of the game played on other emulators and on a real MVS. While normal slowdown was present, the "pauses" did not seem to occur at all in any of the videos, although the quality wasn't the best I've seen.
Steps To Reproduce During gameplay, hold down both "punch" buttons and have your character as close as possible to stronger enemies (ones that take more than one or two hits to defeat).
Additional Information Used official MAME build. No cheats were used except to test the overclock CPU settings to verify whether or not it was a slowdown issue - it's not a slowdown issue and seems to be a real bug.

I'm not entirely sure this isn't an original slowdown bug.

I looked just now on Youtube and saw an MVS recording:

I noticed that at 2:43+ in the video, once you get to that set of enemies, it seems to be the same time of slowdown/pausing that is being shown in MAME. Watch it really slow down about 3:00 in the video.

Captain Tomady is well-known that it slows down quite often.

I guess this slowdown could be by design like in many cave games since overclocking doesn't help and the background speed is not affected.

Closing.

I'm not sure the video demonstrates the issue being talked about.

If you go close to the big enemies and hold both shoot buttons then the game has really bad stuttering, even if there is *nothing* else on the screen.

If anything that doesn't seem to happen in this video.

The code responsible could do with being traced down, as it looks like some odd timing problem / relying on some hardware bug to work proeprly because even perfect syncing the sound/main cpus like in s1945p doesn't elimiate the slowdowns.
