Summary 04179: battlane, battlane2, battlane3: [possible] Slowndowns when more enemies appear
Description During playing I noticed strange slowdowns (frame skipping) when more enemies appear and I shoot. When I stop shooting speed returns almost to normal.
Steps To Reproduce Start game with with no frame skipping and with speed info on the upper right corner of screen.

Also watch attract mode until you see first barrier breaking, notice slowdowns is present even if screen is not scrolling.
Additional Information Please notice that during playing speed info does not show any frame skipping or slowdown.

I've seen this behaviour in other games recently. I just to need retest some.

original games have slowdown too...

we don't need reports for every game which has slowdown because in most cases it's likely to be correct.

is there any reason to think this isn't behaviour of the original?

Also, if you're running Windows 7 with a poor graphics card it seems to introduce this kind of skipping into ALL games (even Pacman) if something else is busy in the background. MAME doesn't display any skipping in those cases even if it clearly is. Just a thought, you state XP tho, so I doubt that's the case here.

GF 8800GTS Core2Duo 3,20Ghz, XP Pro SP3.

Mostly when original hardware have slowndowns it simply slown without frame skipping. In this case almost every time when you shoot game slow down. I really doubt that developer release this game with slowdown in more 50% of game. Occasional slowdowns - yes, it happens on real hardware. Many slowdowns or slowdown with long duration - I don't think so.

Tomorrow I'll switch to XP SP2 x64 and ATI X300SE and I compare with 64bit build.

I can confirm that slowdowns are very obvious, but won't confirm this bug report; I agree with Haze.

CPU freq hasn't been confirmed though, anyone here owns the PCB?

I tried find some video from real hardware but without any luck. Maybe Stefan could help.

Ok, I changed CPU freq to a more obvious 1.5mhz (same as xain d sleena, also a 1986 technos game with m6809)
There are still some minor slowdowns though. I'll leave this report open until we have proof from the PCB. Proof via game footage is useful too.

Confirmed. Set as possible pending pcb investigation.
