Something interesting about this version of Whoopee!!: the ROMs are labeled TP-025, but the PCB itself is labeled TP-020, the same label as Teki Paki (and it really is identical hardware to Teki Paki). http://arcade.ym2149.com/pcb/toaplan/whoopee_pcb_partside.jpg The graphics ROMs are on a daughtercard, presumably because they're higher capacity ROMs than Teki Paki uses, with a different pinout. I haven't seen a PCB of the version of Whoopee!! with a Z80, but I'm guessing that that version of the PCB would be labeled TP-025, matching the ROM labels (and that it doesn't need a daughtercard for the graphics ROMs!) As far as I know this is the only time Toaplan released the same game on two different PCB types. |
