Summary 04674: shinobi, shinobi1: Shinobi (System 16A) 'Popping Audio' Issue
Description Load any of the Shinobi 'SYSTEM 16A' versions (including clones/bootlegs). There are lots of audio popping/clicking sounds, including a noticeable 'pop' when the game is first loaded, as well as several 'pop' sounds when you start a game and hear the speech to announce you are about to begin 'MISSION ONE...', and also a pop sound every time you JUMP during gameplay.

IMPORTANT: The SYSTEM 16B versions (including clones/bootlegs) are OK and not affected.
Steps To Reproduce 1. Load any of the Shinobi SYSTEM 16A versions (including clones/bootlegs)
2. Listen for the various pops/clicks as you play the game (read the text above for examples of when the pops/clicks can be heard).

I'm leaning towards not a bug.

The reason is that both 16A and 16B are different sound setups and it's unreasonable to expect they initialize the same, act 100% the same. Unless you can prove that an original system16A board does not do the same things you describe (through a PCB audio/video recording), I do not believe we can continue on this.

Sound details
System 16A:
  Z80 (':soundcpu') @ 4.00 MHz
  YM2151 (':ymsnd') @ 4.00 MHz
  DAC (':dac')

System 16B:
   Z80 (':soundcpu') @ 5.00 MHz
   YM2151 (':ymsnd') @ 4.00 MHz
   UPD7759 (':upd') @ 640.00 kHz

We want sound capturing from the original board to prove this issue.

ok unfortunately i cant help out there so apologies.

* * * note to any shinobi fans out there..... i recommend playing the SYSTEM 16B version. that way you don't have to hear a popping sound every time you hit the jump button * * *
