Summary 00472: bosco: Explosion of a space mine or a base changes the pitch of the player's shooting sound.
Description Notice when you shoot a space mine or destroy a base, the explosion of either one of these changes the pitch of the player's shooting sound momentarily. The explosion sound lasts only about 1-1.5 seconds but within that time you can clearly hear changes to your ship's firing sound when you continue to fire rapidly, and then the firing sound returns to normal until a mine or base is hit again or when an enemy ship collides with a mine.

Follow-up by nostos: I've double checked on an original namco pcb: the sound of the shots doesn't change the pitch while destroying a base.

Tested on mame 0.203. This issue no longer happens. It is fixed.
I cannot know exactly when this was fixed cause the romset was changed at some point and I don't have old romsets.
It seems it was fixed in mame 0.131u3 by Aaron Giles (read full description of that change, it affected audio devices)

This bug is not fixed. Not in MAME 0.131u1 or 0.203.

Start MAME 0.203 with bosco. There are 3x enemy bases in the 1st level.
Try to destroy the enemy base at top left! Hold the fire button down. Try it not from below but from above.
Then you can clearly hear that the pitch of the player's shooting sound is changing.

There are no sound change in this video. Startet at 14:43 he destroy several bases and you can't
hear any pitch changes of the player's shooting sound.

You can hear an important pitch change in the shooting in the arcade pcb. In 12:30, while the ship is flying in diagonal it shoots a mine, (points from 3400 to 3420) and suddenly the shooting sound turns into a deeper sound.

I agree, the player bullet pitch change after mine/base explosions sounds similar to MAME.

It is much worse in older versions of MAME, for example 0.120. I double checked, and the fix is actually in 0.125, maybe one of the discrete sound improvements in that version.
