Summary | 05211: rfjets: Bad graphics for boss' tank tracks
Description | I was running rfjets, the Single Board version recently dumped with notable unique features including a sound test. Gave it a spin and got up to the Wild Weasel variant (the boss) of Simulation Stage 20.
Steps To Reproduce |
Easy method I used: 1. Have Special Mode enabled in Test Settings 2. Start game, go to SPECIAL 3. Play up to the Desert Stage (Simulation Stage 20) where this boss will appear after a set of smaller enemies 4. The tank will roll up to the screen and generate these glitched graphics |
||||
Additional Information |
I've not seen a Single Board PCB in action, but I know in the parent set (rfjet) and the Japan version (rfjetj) this issue does not occur: the tank tracks are quite obviously tank tracks in the sand and look fine. This however I doubt is meant to be normal. If someone could confirm whether it's a bug or something that happens on the PCB I'm sure it'd be much appreciated. |

It is known to have video and sound problems. As the rules say: We don't accept reports for games with specific flags. When you start MAME, if there is a problem with a particular set, you will be given a screen which lists the problems out that you must type "OK" to. Based on the message(s), posting a new bug is not desired. "THE SOUND EMULATION IS NOT 100% ACCURATE" - Do not submit sound bugs except heavy regression. "THE VIDEO EMULATION IS NOT 100% ACCURATE" - Do not submit video bugs except heavy regression. I'm not sure what "heavy regression" means but for you this is not the case. Thanks! |

Heavy regression is not very definable always, but it takes in a situation like a game in which graphics once have been fairly good and playable in old versions, but they become so much regressed that you can not play it any more. But we should consider the cause of the regression, it could be temporal for development. If so, we don't have to report it here. |

I requested he post this... really this is a good / interesting report, this is not the kind of issue you'd expect from the flags. |

to be more specific... this issue only happens with this set, every other set of the game in the driver is fine and does not exhibit the issue, not even the other single pcb version. to me that suggests either this is an original bug, a bad dump of the program roms, or that the game should be using different gfx roms on this set. it is not an 'overall driver video imperfection bug' of the kind that would be covered by imperfect graphics / sound flags, it's a very specific issue relating to one set that needs further investigation from the people with the PCBs. In this case I've asked the owner of it to check, and he's probably going to ask Brian who dumped it to check on his behalf. |

From the owner of the board "Managed to squeeze in a quick test of rfjets. The corruption is on the PCB as well which is a bit sad." |

Hm. So is this a bad dump or an original bug? |

original bug, I think the set is some kind of proto version when they were converting it to work on the single board hardware, it has various other debug features enabled (eeprom modification / sound test + strange debug strings) I'm guessing they introduced some bugs at the same time ;) |
