Summary | 05960: carnival: possible colour issue | ||||
Description |
hi all, i noticed in carnival (sega upright and cocktail versions), for the MAME version the 'SCORE 1' in the top left hand corner of the screen, is displayed using a yellow colour. but looking at various pics and videos of the original arcade cab/cocktail, it seems the colour for the 'SCORE 1' is a kind of pink colour. here are some links (pics) showing the 'pink' 'SCORE 1' colour as seen on an original cab/cocktail: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NjQwWDQ4MA==/z/rZIAAOSw3xJVdDjA/$_57.JPG http://i.ytimg.com/vi/8slTGJKyyAY/maxresdefault.jpg video: |

All I see is a monitor that needs degaussing or something, it's still yellow as the base colour. |

I don't know, the evidence presented is a bit inconsistent.... I'm going to acknowledge this so we can hopefully look deeper and determine if it's not just monitor artifacts or perhaps something else. |

I'm not convinced. From your reference video (at about 7:42) when Todd finishes his first round, player 2 is shown rotated to they can get a turn on the other side. On this screen, both scores there are plainly yellow. To me it would not make sense to have only one side different and have to think there is either a monitor issue (like mentioned before needing a good degauss) or there is some issue with magnetic shielding causing the discoloration along the edge. Changing caps in a monitor will not fix a degaussing problem. Flyer pictures I've seen also show a solid yellow for many elements on the screen as shown in emulation.. The only color that I know of that might be in dispute is the greenish/blue color is said to be possibly having more blue color. There is a note in the driver already referring to a possibly missing an extra pull up resistor which might change that color in a subtle way. ah, sorry it looks like in the first picture there is a degauss problem, because looking at the top-left score (numbers), they are coloured white instead of blue the second pic though, im not so sure, because the blue colours (around the top-left of the screen) near the pink text, look to be the same blue shade as the rest of the screen (if degauss issue I don't think they would remain blue) ? i noticed something in the youtube video.. if you watch from 7 mins 43 seconds. you see the pink text, but when the screen flips, the text is yellow for the other player so, perhaps something screen flipping related |

It's just screen discolouration and it's very obvious - note how the top row or so of red targets changes shade as it moves to the left. Then when the game flips for cocktail player 2, all the colours at the top are even. |

See comments - it's just a discoloured screen. |
