It is universally accepted as Star Wars Arcade. I'm not convinced that changing it would clarify things, but I'll acknowledge it.

Frankly, there is an earlier Atari vector-based game known simply as "Star Wars" (starwars), so also calling swa "Star Wars" is going to muddle and confuse things. The inclusion of "Arcade" in the title is enough to differentiate it from the Atari game.

If there's 2 different games have equal game titles, we usually add company info to the title. Or form factor info, like (handheld) or (pinball).

Yeah, the arcade version does not have 'Arcade' in the title, nor is it featured anywhere in the advertising material or cabinet. Arcade is used on the 32X version to hype up the fact that it's an arcade port.

It should just be "Star Wars (Sega)" in MAME

I've done that through a pull request.

As is often the case, they can't decide.

Yeah, it'll stay in limbo if noone can prove Sega changed the title of the arcade version, or doesn't retract their claim.
I also find it weird that cuavas is against renaming the romset (if the game title gets renamed) when he's the same person that for example approved renaming niyanpai to nyanpai.

To be fair, niyanpai to nyanpai is just a spelling difference (maybe the latter is a more accurate romanization of the Japanese title).

I'm talking specifically about romset (shortname) change.
If title is Nyanpai but shortname is niyanpai, one could get confused about the extra "i"
If title is Star Wars but shortname is swa, one might think, where does the "a" come from, the A revision?

I've just uploaded a scan from a 1994 magazine calling it just "Star Wars" (also calling the Data East pinball game "Star Wars" in the same page).
