The major part of the bug is known - laserdisc games by in large do not work properly using HLSL filtering as per 05424 and is considered a duplicate report.

The issue with the UI, however, appears valid. Given the regression testing, it last worked 0.187. 0.188-0.190 crashes MAME when you attempt Video Options and 0.191 has the menu, but the video mode is not selectable.

Changing this bug to focus on UI rather than the duplicate "HLSL with laserdisc games" issue.

If you use Configure Options, Video Options - it all works correctly.

But, Configure Machine, Video Options - it has the bug.

Configure Machine will mean the settings will be in the game's ini file, which usually doesn't exist. I did some tests with the first game in the list - 88games.
Firstly, Configure Machine, Save machine configuration - should create ini\88games.ini - it did. Now manually edit this file and change video auto to d3d.
Now Configure Machine, Video Options - it shows d3d with a left arrow. Press left and it changes to auto and you're stuck there - you can't go back to d3d.
Further, under the box, there's a red description pane which should list all the possible choices - this is missing. It just says "video output method:".
