Summary MESS-specific 07461: nes [ngaiden2]: Graphics corruption in Level 2
Description Right from the start of the level, background scrolling is corrupted. And, as soon as the player moves enough for the train in the foreground to scroll as well, the whole scene becomes entangled as some sort of overlapping effect involving both depths appears along with heavy flickering.

Level can absolutely be cleared in spite of this, as it is in no way a game-breaking issue. Indeed bar some visual annoyance, scene remains consistent enough to understand how to make your way forward, albeit with some trial and error.

Strangely, as it may seem that it's a frequency-related issue, the attachment does not represent the level of degradation experienced while in-game, and was added for the sake of bringing some visual illustration to the issue described.
Steps To Reproduce Reach level 2 and start moving.
Additional Information Tested with MAMEUI64 0.214.
The only bug I have witnessed so far in the game, of which I have passed almost all levels bar the two last ones. Dysfunction seems specific to the scrolling effects involved in that sole level.

Vague approximation of the occurrence. Consider visible glitches/artifacts to be all over the screen with flicker.

You state 0.214 is the regression version - does this mean 0.213 works as expected?

It does not. Issue existed as far back as I recall, I think at least from 0.187. I filled this field it in while I shouldn't have. Modified the ticket consequently, my mistake.

Ok. I can confirm. The driver is flagged as having imperfect graphics so issues like this are to be expected for some games.
Despite not having a regression (which I suspect is a long while back, if at all), I'll accept and confirm this report.

Appreciated Tafoid, thank you.

Indeed I hesitated for quite some time in submitting this report considering the imperfect graphics flag and not being able to determine which version handled this section correctly, if at all, as you say.

Only similar reports regarding minor graphics bugs by others that I noticed while browsing active threads led me to finally create a ticket on it, thinking devs could always benefit from the largest possible number of specific issues to look into possible common causes or problems in the future, while trying so solve outstanding issues on the Nes driver.

NES driver, sadly, hasn't been touched in a meaningful way in a long time. Outside of a rewrite or importing a source compatible emulator which 'gets things more right', this may sit unresolved for a while.

Indeed I always felt I counted among the minority group still actively and passionately clinging on to this driver and reporting anything I can :(

But I have faith in the community, not a year comes without major improvements to once forgotten compatibility requirements, so I'll wait as long as I have to. Keep up the great work.
