Summary 00754: mikie: Background music problem in the locker room level.
Description There's a problem with the background music in Mikie when on the locker room level. The music sounds discordant and off-key. I checked previous MAME versions and found the music broke between 0.114 and 0.114u4, almost certainly this from 0.114u3 whatsnew.txt:

Lord Nightmare improved the noise emulation in the SN76496 emulator. Added several variants which differ based on the noise generator and other parameters.

The music always seemed a tiny bit off even in early MAME versions (perhaps the original was the same way) but it's noticeably worse now.
Steps To Reproduce
Additional Information First fix 0.129u4 (nicolasa), regression 0.134u3 to match actual board but is still wrong?

sounds like 107 if you change SN76496 to SN76489

Could someone with a PCB check the soundchips labels? :)
*edit* and, if possible, make a sound recording of the locker room level music, especially if it sounds different from either attached MP3.

The sound chip markings are scratched off on the actual PCB unfortunately. However, the schematics show 2xSN76489AN.

I have uploaded a recording from the PCB (original of course). It's the japanese version to be more exact.
It sounds slightly better than the MAME recordings in this report.

I'm wondering if Konami did this on purpose, i.e. write the wrong chip model in the schematics and put the other one in the original boards with the markings filed off, so they could prove if a pcb was not original...

And if it was done on purpose with Mikie maybe they added some slight wrong info in the schematics for other games as well :-)

This bug is back in 0134u4 due to the following change in whatsnew.txt:

Verified on PCB all the clocks for Mikie, changed the M6809 clock to
1.536MHz and Vsync to 60.59Hz. Changed the sound chips to variant
SN76489A which are the ones on the PCB. [Corrado Tomaselli]

Seems as though there may be a problem with MAME's emulation of the sound chip somewhere down the line.

It sounds the same as mikie_lockerroom_pcb.ogg to me now, can someone confirm?
