I'd like to see some original cabinet/PCB behavior on this issue.
Also, a save state would help out those who cannot play the game well and want to try to look at the issue.
Please make one with 0.231, if you are able.

I haven't played the original in arcade to the 3D levels, but in emulation while the timer doesn't restart when you continue - you do lose a life at 0:00 and the timer resets then if you have more players. That seems to be a logical penalty for not finishing in a certain time frame.

Hello Tafoid. all good with you ?

" Also, a save state would help out those who cannot play the game well and want to try to look at the issue."
Not is simple test MAME previous versions in Linux.
Need test to see if that issue happen in previous versions or is recent.

If testing previous versions and has same issue next step is see and arcade capture video.
Look being BTANB or problem in emulation.

Tafoid have an nice week.

Just wanted to add a note here that this also happens at least as far back as MAME v0.214. I just happened to have an old compile still sitting around on my Linux machine, and figured I would test it. I can also test even older versions if needed.

given the other bug with continue sprites being left on the screen there could be some subtle protection / bad codepath being taken on continue. it's definitely one to verify on a PCB.
