Summary | 08145: f1lap: F3 soft reset causes the emu/game to crash if NVRAM is empty; changing game settings can cause the game to fail | ||||
Description |
Pressing F3 to do soft reset causes the emulator to soft-crash after the screen blacks out - in which sound repeats if there's any from the previous screen, but it could still be killed by CTRL+C at the command prompt. EDIT: There's also another issue that might be related in 0.238: Making changes to the game through the setting menu may required that to be done twice, and if you succeed in doing so, the game never boots again on hard reset until the NVRAM is deleted. Thus, the above seem to only occur on empty NVRAM. |
||||
Steps To Reproduce | |||||
Additional Information |
- On MAME 0.216, resetting the game during startup (sometimes) or car/transmission select causes the game to no longer boot until the NVRAM is deleted. TAB (menu)/INS (FPS display) still worked in that version, though. - Unsure if this falls into the "Reset and Pause bugs are not bugs unless they crash" rule, but since there is a soft crash it likely counts. |

I've traced it to some work on July 4, 2020 https://github.com/mamedev/mame/commit/9cd4f31d8f3d5cee3697b764d7b3eb4b343a9bf8 Not 100% sure this is the cause of the extreme slowdown upon RESET or not. |
