Summary | 08422: nes and clones, famicom and clones [opaopa]: Fantasy Zone II: HUD shows a line of garbage
Description |
The bottom line of the in-game HUD shows garbage pixels that scroll along the main screen. Recordings of real hardware show that the garbage should be limited to a few pixels on the right and change constantly, as can be seen in the following videos: Interestingly, the area showing the garbage may differ slightly between NES/Famicom models (or when using flashcarts?). |
||||
Steps To Reproduce | Just start a game or wait for the demo to start.
Additional Information | This is also one of the NES games that show a noticeable colored border framing the screen, as reported here: https://mametesters.org/view.php?id=7054

Another one of the many cartridge IRQ timers that don’t work well. I updated the Sunsoft-3 code previously, so it will take someone fixing the PPU. Still it’s good to know what the aberrations look like on real hardware. Side note: the other Sunsoft-3 game (mitokom) doesn’t use the IRQ as far as I could tell. |

Can confirm that the NES + flashcart combo indeed shows the effect as in the second video: The difference seen is likely caused by the flashcart's mapper emulation but, sadly, I don't have a real cartridge to confirm that it behaves as in the first video. |
