Summary 08518: vf: Creating a new nvram will make the Ranking have all times of 0"00 with no initials as LAU unless you choose Backup Data Clear
Description When i was listening to the Virtua Fighter musics, at one point i was like: I see there's the Name Entry track but why is it not playing in-game when i'm done?
And then i saw why: The Ranking from 1st to 18th haves all 0"00 with no initials as LAU

I thought at first this was related with the highscore plugin but.. i checked the highscore folder and there was no vf.hi file.
After clearing the Data with "Backup Data Clear" and beating the game, now i could get to the part to put my initials.. although it's kinda glitchy with the constant flicker with the character model and the letters, i couldn't screenshot frames for that.
Still, once i put my initials and see the Ranking updated, then it did created the vf.hi file and everything was back to normal.

I've uploaded 2 screenshots, one with a fresh new nvram and another after choosing "Backup Data Clear"
(Ignore the Mimi and Nyami backgrounds, i was having it as a generic artwork.)

One extra thing i would like to say is that even after making a new nvram file, there's a weird effect with the last replay save (shown after the title screen after the rankings), because there is no data, it only shows Akira and Pai without moving for like 2 seconds and then it goes back to the title screen just to loop back to the attract mode.
I would say if this also happens on an actual PCB but, i think it would behave the same.
Steps To Reproduce 1. Create a new nvram folder by launching the game, if there's an existing one, delete the vf folder from the nvram folder
2. Let it go through the Attract Mode until it gets to the title screen and then shows the simple rules
3. You will see from 1st to 18th, theres no initials, all times on 0"00 and all characters are LAU

To fix this, go to service mode and choose "Backup Data Clear", choose yes then get out of service mode, now look at the rankings, it's fixed.

I believe this is much the same way as other games have operated (examples I can think of are Track and Field and Hyper Sports).
The machine did not get shipped with a pre-loaded nvram and you needed to (As a Game Operator) go through the procedure to initialize/clear the backup data via Service Mode (in this case), or a DIP Switch (in trackfld, hyperspt case).
There is no pre-loaded nvram/battery backup in the romset itself.

In my opinion - not a bug.

The other issues mentioned are among the many reasons the game remains flagged as NOT WORKING.

Closing as no change needed (nvram working as expected).
