| Summary | 09340: scion: Discrete sound effects are not emulated properly | ||||
| Description |
Compared to the Arcade Archives version, the game as emulated on MAME appears to rely solely on the AY-3-8910A PSG chips for sound effects, with no discrete sound effects to be heard. Tested with version 0.280 as the bug still happens on my current nightly build (b34bb05). Gameplay video of the Arcade Archives version for reference: |
||||
| Steps To Reproduce | Load the game and start it by inserting a coin. Play through the first area and compare the sound effects heard to the ones as heard on the reference video. | ||||
| Additional Information | The Arcade Archives video occasionally defaults to an auto-dub in "English" that induces a mistaken voice line ("Wow"). Before you view the video, make sure to change the video language to Japanese (Original) to ensure accuracy to real hardware (and the music sounds clearer there too). | ||||

You claimed there's a voice saying "Wow" at 1:47. I don't hear any "Wow" voice in the video link after finishing the stage. Auditory illusion? :P |

It still sounds like "Wow" to me. Try a second earlier (1:46). |

(In the video). But in the game as emulated on MAME, I don't hear any voice lines. |

I agree that the discrete explosions and shot sounds different (although this is Arcade Archives, not a PCB). But nope, no wow voice. |

Just found a real hardware video. The sound there is just like the video of the Arcade Archives version I put up in the description. |

I can hear the 'WOW' very clearly in the Arcade Archives release, but it doesn't sound like it's coming from the game? I can't hear it at all in the real hardware video. |

The "Wow" thing seems like a mystery to us, and very certainly so. |

UPDATE: It was a side effect of an English auto-dub on the Arcade Archives video. Setting the language to Japanese Original means that the "Wow" soundbite is non-existent. |

So this is some YouTube AI bullshit? Good to know YouTube is now destroying potentially useful reference material... |

Youtube auto-dub can be disabled. Note that discrete sounds *are* emulated, just incorrectly (shot sound and explosions). |
