For these retro rereleases that appear to have a different version, it's important to find PCB references too. Taito may have modified the music due to licensing issues.

Here's one of those? The sound effects are the same, but music is different.

I assume it's an Epson music chip (like Pleiads)

I highly doubt that music was ever used on an original Phoenix board, it was probably replaced for the collection.

I'm not convinced there's an issue here, but it's acknowledged.

I assume that the makers got whatever epson chime chip happened to be available at the time, so there could be various ones in use.

These games (and others) use a dedicated off-the-shelf music chip for their music. They would have been purchased in bulk.
The same chips were used as all-in-1 solutions for things like christmas lights and doorbells. If you put a different one on the PCB it will play different music. If you repair a PCB with the wrong chip you'll also get different music.

The music wasn't composed by the developer of the game, so for a rerelease of the game it's entirely possible they decided they didn't own the copyright and had to swap it out.

Can be probable of this version, remember find messages in old sites of various Phoenix with different song (like an russian song) and too different sound system, like the epson chip

The sound rom has many effects, sounds and 4 themes, if the use in Pleiads, some sounds and effects change, too the epson chip can be a very chance of many effects are used for that chip

Old mame versions has effects different, inside the rom this sounds exists too (an possible multi prupose sound rom maybe?)
