1. Install MS-DOS

How? Which version? How to create a suitable hard drive? How to configure ct486 to have a floppy drive and a hard drive? I do not know.

Therefore this report has only been acknowledged.

MS-DOS 6.22 is the last "real" DOS.

Harddrive: "chdman createhd -tp 0 -o mydrive.chd"

Start system: "mame ct486 -ramsize 8M -hard mydrive.chd -flop1 msdos622:flop1"

Enter BIOS (del key), select "Auto Detect Harddrive", save and exit.

DOS installation should start.

Following your instructions allows the problem to be confirmed. When the game is started (ARCHON or ARCHON1), a DOS4GW banner appears, quickly followed by the black screen.

Seems to have been extensively discussed in https://forums.bannister.org/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=123222

As an experiment, I attempted to install wfw311 into at486, it autodetected a Logitech mouse. After the 2nd disk, when it tried to enter windows it hung. Running the setup again and changing the mouse to Genius Mouse on COM1 allowed the setup to succeed. Archon looks like it might use a mouse, so perhaps it is having a similar issue.
