We know that. Qbert, Qbert's Qubes and clones are flagged as having inaccurate sound for that very reason.
The emulation framework for the Votrax just got installed and it will take some work to perfect.
This includes all other games as well with Votrax such those in gottlieb.cpp and astrocde.cpp

This was greatly improved in mame 0.225. Maybe to the point to close this report.

MAME 180-181 use votrax samples.

I think we can close/resolve this. This bug was to represent the poor quality votrax which originally replaced the samples.
Q*Bert, outside of the knocker.wav, should be just about right now and will keep the imperfect sound flag because of using that sample.
