Summary | 06979: splatter, galaga88, etc.: Huge audio crackle upon start | ||||
Description |
If you are using port audio, it will also make sound playing other than MAME crackle (e.g. music you are listening to going haywire while the crackle lasts). Using "auto" instead of "portaudio" still has crackle issue, but not as much. If you load any saved states, this does not happen. Not sure when this started happening. |

I don't believe this report is a valid one as results with PortAudio basically boil down to what hardware you're using. What are you using as far as pa_api, pa_device, and pa_latency goes? A verbose output would be useful. |

sound portaudio audio_latency 1 pa_api "Windows WDM-KS" pa_device default pa_latency 0.003334 I've tried using pa_latency 0.00001, and/or "Windows WASAPI", but none of them work output the sound right (on any machines) on my setup. The crackle is still audible if default sound system is used, just not as bad as when portaudio is used. I tried it on a different rig, and audio crackle is still present at launch. |

I can hear this "pops" or "cracks" sound without portaudio, portaudio just make it worse. Mame is having some issues with sound engine for the past 10 years or so, the issue is related with the FM sound engine, specific to Yamaha sound chips that I've noticed like YM2203, YM2151, YM3812, etc. It doesn't sound like this will be fixed soon. Confirmed. Related? http://mametesters.org/view.php?id=6891 http://mametesters.org/view.php?id=6931 |
